Wait Before You Walk

The Public Transport Authority through Transperth and School Bus Services is committed to transporting children and young people to and from school safely. ‘Wait Before You Walk’ is part of the broader Transperth Get on Board education program that delivers the skills, knowledge and values necessary for students to become safe and independent users of public transport.

The ‘Wait Before You Walk’ campaign is specifically aimed at increasing awareness of pedestrian safety around buses in 11 to 16 year olds.

Campaign objectives

1. Raise awareness of pedestrian safety around buses.
2. To encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves and others whilst travelling to and from school.
3. To engage young people so that they feel bus safety is important and relevant to them.

Key messages

1. Be aware around traffic and wait before you walk onto the road.
2. Never cross the road in front or behind a bus, or between two buses.
3. Avoid distracting influences when attempting to cross the road.
