Transperth staff and passengers have been active in supporting Radio Lollipop for more 15 years, with all funds collected from the annual Uniform Free Day going directly to Radio Lollipop. Uniform Free Day is the main source of funding for this important charity.
Radio Lollipop volunteers provide care, comfort, play and entertainment to children in hospital. The radio broadcasting service operates live each night from the PMH studio and is streamed to the satellite hospitals throughout the state. The radio is programmed around the requests of the children, who are encouraged to participate in activities, competitions and lots of games. The funds raised from Uniform Free Day are a key part in helping Radio Lollipop’s dedicated team of volunteers in continuing their service and unique brand of play.
Lollipop stands for “Lots of Love and Laughter in Place of Pain” – the idea of helping children in hospital is something that we can all support.
Last year Uniform Free Day raised over $75,000 and, in addition to covering Radio Lollipop’s operational costs, we were able to refurbish playrooms at Fremantle and Joondalup hospitals.
We are hoping to make more dreams possible this year, so your enthusiastic support is needed. Transperth staff will be out in force at Esplanade, Perth and Perth Underground stations between 7.00am and 9.00am on Wednesday 21 March 2012, rattling yellow tins in hand ready to collect your generous donations. Radio Lollipop volunteers and supporters will also be located at various other locations throughout Perth and the surrounding suburbs; and all buses will be fitted with collection tins. The more courageous staff members, volunteers and bus drivers will be dressed up as the likes of Buzz Lightyear, Mini Mouse, pirates, fairies and much more.
We look forward to the continued support from Transperth passengers and thank you for your kindness.
