Safety
Transperth is one of the safest and most modern public transport systems in the world, and when you travel on the Transperth network you can be confident that a team of people are watching out for your safety, welfare and comfort.
The safety and security of passengers and staff is a key priority for Transperth. While a single incident on our system is one too many, the reality is that the number of incidents per passenger boarding have decreased. Despite this, many still believe our system is unsafe, particularly at night. However, much of these reports are driven by perceptions rather than reality.

What can you do?
We have the best chance of keeping you safe, if you take an active role in your own safety. We suggest:
- Keep the volume low on your audio device, and be aware of your personal surroundings.
- Plan ahead, to minimise the amount of time you will spend waiting at stations or stops.
- Use the Transperth’s JourneyPlanner or Google Transit.
- Call the InfoLine on 13 62 13.
- When waiting for your service to arrive, stand somewhere well-lit, in view of the CCTV cameras if possible, and near staff members if they are present.
- Be aware of the location of emergency buttons.
- Plan the next part of your journey, once you leave your Transperth service. Have someone meet you at the station, or alert people to when you expect to be home. Walk in well-lit areas, and avoid short cuts.
- Use designated access routes when entering or exiting Transperth stations or interchanges. Crossing the tracks is extremely dangerous, and can be enforced by law.
- Stand back from the yellow line on rail platforms. The trains create a powerful draft as they pass, which could unbalance passengers too close to the edge of the platform.
- Ask for assistance if you require it.
- Sit up front, close to the bus driver.
- Stay off the tracks, you never know when the next train is coming.
How can we help?
- Find a Transit Officer / Transperth staff member.
- Speak to the bus driver.
- At stations, push the emergency button and you will be connected to CMR.
- On the train, push the emergency button to speak to the driver.
- Call 9220 9999 for emergency assistance.
The Central Monitoring Room (CMR)
