Bus Stop Accessibility Works Program

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is committed to improving access to public transport for people with disabilities.  In working toward meeting this commitment, the PTA has commenced a Bus Stop Accessibility Works Program which initially aims to upgrade approximately 600 public transport bus stops per year with the eventual aim to make all stops in the Perth metropolitan area accessible.

When completed, the upgraded bus stops will consist of a level hard-stand landing at the immediate bus stop area set at the correct height and fitted with tactile ground surface indicators. The upgrade will not only benefit people with disabilities but all public transport users.

During these works, each bus stop will not be in use for a period of three to five days. Where possible, a temporary bus stop will be sited within close proximity to the permanent bus stop. Where this cannot be done, for the safety of our passengers, the bus will continue on to the next permanent stop. Passengers will be informed of these changes through signage placed at the permanent bus stop, a few days prior to the works commencing.

The areas that the PTA is targeting within the next coming months are as follows (please click on suburb names for a list of affected bus stops):

Atwell Karawara
Banjup Kensington
Beeliar Manning
Beldon Mullaloo
Como Ocean Reef
Connolly Salter Point
Edgewater South Perth
Forrestdale Success
Heathridge Warwick
Iluka Waterford

This page will be updated regularly with dates when work will commence within your area.

As the PTA recognises that some public transport users may need additional support to understand how to navigate their stop during the works program, we can be contacted regarding specific bus stops. There are a number of ways to find out the stop numbers of bus stops you use regularly. These are:

  1. Writing the bus stop number down when you use it next. This can be found in the top right hand corner of an InfoUnit, or on an orange post.
  2. If your bus stop is a timed stop, the bus stop number can be found on the timetable for the route you travel on.
  3. Use Stops Near You to locate which stops you use frequent.
  4. When using JourneyPlanner to plan trips, it always displays which bus stop numbers you will need to get on and off at.
  5. Interactive service map is a good way to locate your bus stop on a map. Simply select the route you travel on, the direction, and then zoom in to locate your stop number.

Once you have identified your bus stop number, you can contact Gráinne Quigley at grainne.quigley@pta.wa.gov.au or on 9326 2922 for more information on when the relevant bus stops will be affected.
