Autoload

Autoload enables a direct debit to be made automatically from a nominated bank account to your SmartRider card account when the balance on your card falls below the low-value threshold of $6 for standard users and $3 for concession users.

When the value on your SmartRider goes below the low-value threshold amount, SmartRider will activate an automatic reload to your SmartRider card immediately crediting value to your card. SmartRider then makes a call on the nominated bank account for the funds to be transferred to your SmartRider account (allow 48 hours for the direct debit from the bank account to occur). The Autoload amount that you nominate must be no less than $20 and no more than $250.

Transperth recommends that the nominated autoload amount should allow at least 10 days travel. This will overcome the need for frequent autoload transactions.

Customers nominating Autoload should be aware that bank and/or financial institution fees may apply (including dishonour fees where applicable). Please contact your financial institution for further details.

The first Autoload transfer will only occur when the value on your SmartRider reaches the relevant low-value threshold amount. However the activation of your 25% autoload discount occurs as soon as your application form is processed. Allow up to seven working days for this to occur.

When Autoload is activated and you choose to add value to your card using another reload method, the 25% discount facility will be turned off and the 15% discount will activate. The 15% discount will apply until such time as the lowvalue threshold is reached, at which time the Autoload transfer will occur and the 25% discount will reactivate.

To apply for Autoload, the account holder(s) of the bank account to which your SmartRider card will be linked will be required to complete an Application for SmartRider Autoload form.

To apply for Autoload:

1. Complete an Application for SmartRider Autoload form.
2. Post it to the address detailed on the form or take it to a Transperth InfoCentre or SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet who will submit it on your behalf.
3. You should allow up to seven working days for your form to be processed.
4. DO NOT PRESENT THE AUTOLOAD FORM TO YOUR BANK.

NOTE: Transperth is currently investigating the option of providing a credit Autoload facility which may be offered in future.

Add-Value Machines (AVM's) 

AVMs are self-service machines that provide an EFTPOS debit facility to add value to your SmartRider card. AVMs also provide a SmartRider card balance. AVMs are located at:

Train stations

• City: Perth*
• Clarkson, Whitfords, Warwick, Joondalup and Stirling
• Fremantle* and Subiaco
• Midland and Bassendean
• Thornlie and Armadale

Bus stations

• Esplanade Busport
• Wellington St Bus Station

 * Selected AVMs at Perth and Fremantle train stations will also accept cash notes.

Passengers using the EFTPOS function on the Add Value Machines should be aware that bank and/or finaincial institution fees may apply. Please check with your financial institution for further details.

Onboard buses and ferries

You can add value to your SmartRider card on board all Transperth buses and ferries by paying the bus or ferry driver. Only cash notes will be accepted and no change will be given.

BPay (phone and internet) 

You can use BPAY (via the internet or the telephone) to arrange a transfer of funds to your SmartRider card.

The SmartRider BPAY biller code is 241513. Your SmartRider reference number is the unique nine digit SmartRider number located in the top right-hand corner of your SmartRider card.

Customers using BPAY should note that it may take up to five working days to transfer funds using BPAY. Your SmartRider will not be in credit until such time that money is actually transferred to your card. The value will be transferred to your card at the first tag-on after the BPay processing is complete.

Please note that you will not see the amount you have transferred on your SmartRider balance until after you next tag on.

Transperth InfoCentres

Value can be added to your SmartRider at all Transperth InfoCentres using either EFTPOS or cash payment. 

SmartRider Retail Sales Outlets

Value can be added to your SmartRider card at any authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet using either EFTPOS or cash payment.

SmartRider card values

Maximum SmartRider card values

The maximum value of your SmartRider card cannot exceed $256. If you choose to store large values on your SmartRider card,Transperth recommends that you register the card so that the value on the card can be protected if it is lost or stolen.

Minimum SmartRider card values

A low-value threshold is set on all SmartRider cards. For a standard SmartRider card this is $6 and for a concession SmartRider card it is $3.

If you present your SmartRider card to a reader after the balance reaches the low-value threshold, a fault message ‘Low balance – Tag on OK’ will be displayed together with an orange light and a loud audible beep will sound. At this point you should add value to your SmartRider.

If your SmartRider card balance falls below the minimum two-section fare, you will not be able to tag on (unless you are a senior travelling during a ‘free travel’ period). A red light will be displayed and a series of warning beeps will sound. The words ‘Balance too low - add value’ will also be displayed on the processor. At this point you should add value to your SmartRider.
