Seniors SmartRider

WA Seniors are entitled to travel for free on all Transperth services between 9.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as public holidays.

The new free travel entitlements can only be accessed via SmartRider, Transperth’s electronic ticketing system, so you must have a Seniors SmartRider or the new Pensioner SmartRider to travel for free during these times.

SmartRider is available to all seniors who are in possession of a Western Australian Seniors Card. The Seniors SmartRider combines the Western Australian Seniors Card on one side of the card and the SmartRider on the other. The Seniors SmartRider can therefore be used to gain all the usual Seniors Card benefits such as government concessions, business discounts and Transwa concessions.

A Seniors SmartRider must be tagged on and off to access the free public transport entitlements. To use your Seniors SmartRider for discounted concession travel outside of the entitelment period, you will need to add value to your card.

I am a Senior’s Card holder.  Will my benefits change under SmartRider?

The seniors free travel entitlements (on Sundays, public holidays and during Seniors Week) that are provided by Transperth will still apply when SmartRider is introduced. You will still need to tag on and off on the system on these occasions, but no fare will be deducted.

While you do not need credit on your SmartRider to use it during the free travel periods, you must possess a SmartRider to receive these travel entitlements.

I am a senior. Do I need to register my SmartRider details with Transperth?

All seniors who receive a Seniors SmartRider will have their details registered with Transperth. This means that all Seniors SmartRiders are protected if they are lost or stolen.

You simply need to call the Transperth Infoline to report your card stolen if this ever occurs, and the value of your Seniors SmartRider can be protected.

Who do I contact if my details are incorrect on my new Seniors SmartRider card?
