Veterans SmartRider

To provide more efficient services to the Veteran Community, the PTA has introduced a new Veterans SmartRider card. A one off application is all that is needed to receive the new Veterans SmartRider card. Once issued, it is valid for the life of your eligibility and you no longer need to have a new card issued each year.

If you are either a DP (Disability Pension 70 -100%), EDA, INT, POW, TPI or TTI pension recipient you are eligible for a Veterans SmartRider for free travel. If you are a War Widow/er who does not receive the Income Support Supplement (ISS) you are eligible for a Veterans SmartRider card for concession travel.

There are two ways to apply.

  1. You can send a completed Application for a Veterans SmartRider form with two current passport sized photos to:

    Transperth
    Reply Paid 8125
    Perth Business Centre
    Perth WA 6849

Click here to download this application form.

Your personalised Veterans SmartRider card will be returned to you by mail.

  2. You can apply in person at the Esplanade Busport Transperth Information Office (TIO) on Mounts Bay Rd, Perth. Please bring identification to verify your entitlement. While attending the Esplanade Busport TIO your photo will be taken and your Veterans SmartRider card issued immediately.

As part of the application process you will be required to give consent to the PTA to check through the Centrelink/Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) e-confirmation enquiry service to confirm your eligibility for a Veterans SmartRider. Once this consent has been given Transperth can annually confirm your ongoing eligibility, eliminating the need to apply every year.

Parking at stations

Passengers using their SmartRider to access free travel entitlements (WA Seniors, Aged and Disability Support Pension cardholders and Veterans) must note that they are not entitled to park for free in Park ‘n’ Ride areas at stations.

When using your SmartRider to pay for parking, passengers must have sufficient balance to purchase a parking ticket (currently $2) and a minimum 2-Section fare*. For example, a senior using their Senior SmartRider during the free travel period would need a minimum of $2 on their SmartRider, however if they travelled outside of the free travel entitlement they must have a balance of $2.70 or greater.

* You must tag on a Transperth bus or train service the same day you use your SmartRider card to pay for your parking ticket. Failure to do so will prevent you from using your SmartRider to pay for your parking ticket the next time you use the Pay ‘n’ Display.
