The right ticket for you

To travel on Transperth bus, train and ferry services you need to buy a ticket. Transperth offers a range of tickets to meet the needs of you and your family. Whether you use our services to travel to and from work each day or simply use Transperth to go shopping or to a special event, Transperth has the right ticket for you.

When you buy a Transperth ticket you don't just buy a single ride on a bus, train or ferry, you buy up to three hours of travel with Transperth. For journeys up to 4 zones, you have two hours to transfer between services. For trips covering 5 to 8 zones, you have three hours.

The transfer period commences at the time of the ticket purchase or first validation of your SmartRider card.

Transperth has two types of ticketing, SmartRider and cash tickets.

You can buy a cash ticket from all Transperth bus or ferry drivers or from the coin-operated Ticket-Vending Machines (TVM) at train stations.

Please note, passengers are responsible for ensuring they have adequate change to purchase tickets from ticket vending machines.

Primary students, secondary students and seniors may purchase concession cash tickets although proof of concession must be shown when requested.

Students must present their SmartRider card to purchase concession cash tickets. To receive the 15% or 25% discount, students must pay their fares by tagging on and tagging off the service with their SmartRider card.

Passengers using the EFTPOS function on the new Ticket Vending Machines should be aware that bank and/or financial institution fees may apply. Please check with your financial institution for further details.

SmartRider is Transperth's electronic ticketing system that uses smartcard technology incorporating an embedded microchip and an aerial to enable the smartcard to communicate with processors located on board Transperth buses and ferries and at train stations.

The embedded microchip enables value to be stored onto your SmartRider card, journey details to be recorded, and the fare value of each journey to be deducted from the stored value on your card. The SmartRider system is simple to use and the most important two things to remember are:

Add value to your card before you travel.
Tag on and tag off whenever you travel on the Transperth network.

Unlimited all day travel

Provides unlimited all day travel on all Transperth services after 9.00am on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays.
Available as standard or concession tickets.
In Zones 1 to 4, Concession DayRider tickets can be purchased before 7.15am and after 9.00am on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays.
In Zones 5 to 9, Concession DayRider tickets can be purchased before 7.15am and after 8.30am on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays.
Can be purchased as a cash ticket from Transperth bus or ferry drivers or from the coin-operated ticket vending machines at train stations on the day of travel.

Your family's ticket to great savings

Provides unlimited all day travel for up to 7 passengers (two of whom can be standard fare passengers).

The ticket is valid:

All day Saturday, Sunday & public holidays
After 9.00am on weekdays during school holidays
After 6.00pm Monday to Thursday & 3.00pm on Friday.

Can be purchased as a:

Cash ticket from Transperth bus or ferry drivers or from the coin operated ticket vending machines at train stations on the day of travel.

50 cent student fare

The 50 cent student fare is only available with a Student SmartRider. Click here for more information about Student SmartRiders.

Ticket is:

Available from Monday to Friday from the first gazetted school day of the year to the last gazetted school day of the year.
Available during the mid-year school term holiday and on any public holidays that fall from a Monday to Friday during the school year.
Not available on weekends and on any day during the summer school holiday period.

Students using 50 Cent Student concession fare must stand for adults

Students travelling with a Student SmartRider who fail to stand for adults, particularly adults with special needs (e.g. seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women) will not be entitled to travel on the 50 cent fare for a period of 30 days. If asked by an adult, or a Transperth representative, holders of the 50 cent student fare will be obliged to offer their seat.

Transit Officers, security personnel and other authorised officers will enforce this regulation. The 50 cent student fares offers great benefits to students, with these benefits comes the expectation that students will stand and offer their seats to adults whenever requested to do so.

Primary and secondary students

Save up to 25% off a concession fare*
Entitles students to concession fares
Students must tag on and tag off their service to access the 50 cent student fare. Conditions apply.

Students can only obtain the Student 50 cent fare by using their Student SmartRider. Student SmartRiders must also be presented as proof of concession entitlement on all Transperth, Transwa and regional town bus services.

* 25% discount only applies if using the Autoload facility. There is no discount on the already discounted 50 cent student fare.

University and TAFE students

Save up to 25% off concession cash fare
Entitles tertiary students to concession fares
50 cent student fare is not applicable to tertiary students.

Tertiary SmartRiders are available for full-time tertiary students. The process for obtaining a Tertiary SmartRider will depend if you attend a participating or non-participating institution.

25% discount only applies if using the Autoload facility.
