Welcome to Transperth

At Transperth we are working hard to make it easier for you to access and understand our information in your language.

Transperth has translated some important information that you may find helpful to use our public transport system.

Contacting Transperth

If you require an interpreter, please phone the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131450 and ask to be connected to Transperth on 136213.

Planning your journey

Transperth strongly encourages you to plan your journey before you travel. You can do this by contacting Transperth and asking the operator which service you need to catch and at what time. Once you know which service you will need to use, you can pick up a timetable from the bus or at major bus and train stations.

You can also use our online JourneyPlanner to plan your journey. Click here to access JourneyPlanner. For this you will need to know the street or location details you are coming from and going to. For more information on how to use JourneyPlanner, contact Transperth.

Tickets and Fares

With a valid Transperth ticket, you can use any combination of bus, train and ferry services. Transperth does not have conductors to sell tickets onboard services.

Transperth’s public transport system is divided into nine travel zones. Your fare is calculated by the number of zones you travel through on your journey. Click here to download the Transperth Zone Map

Transperth has standard and concession fares available.

Standard fares are for passengers not entitled to a concession fare.

Concession fares are available to passengers who have a concession pass recognised by Transperth (i.e. current Health Care Card). You must be in possession of a valid concession pass at all times to travel on a concession fare.

Transperth has two types of ticketing, cash tickets and SmartRider.

Cash tickets must be purchased from drivers when boarding a bus or ferry or from ticket machines at stations before travelling on a train.

SmartRider is Transperth’s electronic ticketing system. Your SmartRider card allows you to store money to pay for your journey as you tag on and off each service you use.  We recommend SmartRider as it always ensures that you pay the appropriate and lowest fare. Click here to view a demonstration on how to tag on and off using your SmartRider.

Getting started with SmartRider is as easy as…

  1. Purchase your SmartRider at any Transperth InfoCentre (information centre) or Retail Sales Outlet (registered outlet shop). SmartRider cards have an initial purchase fee of $10 for standard and $5 for concession cards. When you purchase your SmartRider you will need to add a minimum of $10 credit to allow you to access the Transperth network. To find your closest Retail Sales Outlet or InfoCentre, please contact Transperth.
  2. As your SmartRider credit runs out, you will need to add more value. You can do so in the following ways:
    - AutoLoad
    - Add-value machines
    - BPAY
    - Onboard all buses and ferries (only cash notes are accepted and no change will be given)
    - InfoCentres
    - Retail Sales Outlets
Contact Transperth for more information on how to add value.
  3. You can register your SmartRider card to protect the value on your card if it is lost or stolen. You can register your card by contacting Transperth or visiting one of the InfoCentres or Retail Sales Outlets. Concession SmartRiders are automatically registered upon processing. Once registered, a SmartRider can only be used by the registered cardholder.
  4. To pay for fares using your SmartRider you must tag on at the beginning of your journey and tag off at the end of your journey and any transfers in-between. You cannot use your SmartRider to tag on more than one person at a time.

You must have a valid Transperth ticket or you may be infringed with a $100 fine. Please contact Transperth for more information on infringements.
