Student SmartRider 50 cent fare - new condition of travel

Effective: Monday 28 April 2008

From Monday 28 April 2008, students travelling on the SmartRider Student 50 cent fare will need to comply with a new condition of travel.

Students failing to stand for adults, particularly adults with special needs (e.g. seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women) will not be entitled to travel on the 50 cent fare for a period of 30 days. These children will be asked to stand and comply with the rules for 50 cent travel by an Authorised Officer, but if they fail to comply, their 50 cent fare option will be suspended. The 30 day suspension period will come into effect seven days after the student has been issued with a suspension notice.

During this 30 day period students can continue to use their SmartRider but they will be charged at the concession fare rate for the zones they travel.

This measure has been taken to ensure students using the cheap 50 cent fare give up their seats to persons either travelling on a full adult fare or who are regarded by Transperth as having a priority for a seat on its services.

For further information regarding this new condition of travel, call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 (TTY: 9428 1999, TIS: 13 14 50).
