Seniors 

West Australian seniors are very important customers of Transperth. Each year more seniors are using Transperth everyday for shopping trips or regular outings.

Attractive travel incentives are aimed at seniors to increase use of public transport and encourage seniors to get out and about. These include free travel on the follwoing days:

  • Sundays
  • Public Holidays
  • During Seniors Week

Transperth also continues to implement measures that improve the safety and comfort on all Transperth services so all members of the community feel safe, secure and comfortable, and are motivated to use Transperth services.

To help seniors and community groups learn more about Transperth - in particular SmartRider, the new electronic ticketing system, Transperth offers a comprehensive educational presentation for seniors and community groups covering the following topics:

  • How to use Transperth
  • Ticketing and fares
  • Accessible services
  • Transperth safety and security initiatives
  • SmartRider ticketing system

This service is provided as an incursion to the requesting organisation / community group.

To arrange a Transperth presentation for your local community group please contact the Transperth Community Liaison Officer on 9326 2277 or email education@transperth.wa.gov.au.

NB:Please select at least three alternative dates for a visitation to ensure a presenter will be available.
The host group will need to provide a blank wall and a powerpoint. The Transperth presenter will provide all electronic equipment for the presentation.

Seniors travel for free with SmartRider during Seniors Week

Sunday 26 October to Sunday 2 November 2008

During Seniors Week, you can use your Seniors SmartRider to receive free travel on Transperth buses, trains and ferry services in the Perth metropolitan area, and all regional town bus services in Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Port Hedland.

Your Seniors SmartRider is programmed with your free travel entitlements so fares will not be charged during Seniors Week. You will still need to tag on and off all Transperth services during Seniors Week to receive your free travel entitlement or present your SmartRider to the driver on regional town services.

To tag on, hold your Seniors SmartRider over the tag on/off icon on processors located onboard buses, ferries and on train station platforms. Listen for the beep and look for the green light to show a successful tag on. To tag off, follow the same tag on procedure. Listen for the beep and look for the green light to show a successful tag off. The SmartRider processor will also show you the balance on your card and fare charged (fares will not be charged during Seniors Week).

What's so special about my Seniors SmartRider card?

You can use your Seniors SmartRider to receive all your WA Seniors Card entitlements and Transperth free travel entitlements on Sundays, public holidays and during Seniors Week.

Your Seniors SmartRider also entitles you to discounted concession travel on all Transperth bus, train and ferry services, Transwa and regional public transport services on any other day of the week.
