Transperth concession passes
Outlined below are the concession passes recognised and accepted by Transperth. For further information about each concession entitlement, click on the 'Holders' field. Adult passengers travelling with Concession SmartRiders and passengers travelling with Tertiary SmartRider are asked to note that they may be required to provide additional identification to support their concession entitlement.
Passengers must also note that a person may only have one valid concession SmartRider registered in their name at any one time. When more than one concession card is registered in a person's name, the most recently registered card will remain as a concession card and all previous concession cards will revert to a Standard SmartRider card.
Children under five years of age travel for free on Transperth services when accompanied by a person aged 15 years and older. If accompanied by another passenger under 15 years of age, children under five years of age must pay a concession fare. Children between the ages of five and 14 years are entitled to concession travel.
Students can only obtain the Student 50 cent fare by using their Student SmartRider.
Students
Primary and secondary school students
Secondary students must present a Student SmartRider to access concession fares. Primary and secondary students must use their SmartRider card to access the 50 cent student fare. Click here to learn more about the 50 cent student fare. Click here to find out more about the Student SmartRider card.
Tertiary and TAFE students
Tertiary students enrolled in a full-time course at a Western Australian tertiary institution are entitled to a Tertiary SmartRider. Tertiary students residing in Western Australia and enrolled in an interstate institution are not entitled to a Tertiary SmartRider. Click here to find out more about the Tertiary SmartRider card.
Interstate primary or secondary students may purchase a Tertiary SmartRider. Interstate students are not entitled to the 50 cent student fare.
Interstate tertiary students residing in Western Australia studying through an eastern states institution are not eligible for a Tertiary SmartRider. Click here for further information.
Students presenting an overseas travel permit are not entitled to concession travel on Transperth services. Overseas students studying in Western Australia should apply for a Tertiary SmartRider at their college or university. Click here to find out more information about Tertiary SmartRider.
Disability Support Pension cardholders are entitled to travel for free on all Transperth services between 9.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as public holidays. The new free travel entitlements can only be accessed via SmartRider, Transperth’s electronic ticketing system, so you must have a Disability Support Pension SmartRider to travel for free during these times.
Companion Card
The Companion Card is issued by ACROD Ltd to people with a significant permanent disability who require attendant care support from a companion.
Transperth honours the Companion Card system by allowing a companion/support person (of a Companion Card holder) to travel free on all services.

Holders of local and interstate Vision Impaired Free Passes are entitled to free travel on all Transperth services. As stated on the travel pass, an accompanying guide may also travel for free.
War Veterans Free Passes are issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Holders of this permit are entitled to free travel on all Transperth services. Holders of Interstate War Veterans Free Passes are also entitled to free travel on all Transperth services.
War Veterans Concession Pass
War Veterans Concession Passes are issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Holders of this permit are entitled concession travel on all Transperth services.
Veterans Affairs Card
Veterans Affairs Cards are issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Holders of this card are entitled to concession travel on all Transperth services.
*NOTE: Passengers are advised that the 2008 Veterans Affairs Card can be used until 31 January 2009. From 1 February 2009, passengers must present their new 2009 Veterans Affairs Card to access their concession entitlement.
Seniors SmartRider Card
WA Seniors are entitled to travel for free on all Transperth services between 9.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as public holidays.
Seniors SmartRider Cards are combined with the WA Seniors Card . The Seniors SmartRider Cards are issued by the WA Seniors Card Centre. Holders of this card are entitled to concession travel on all Transperth services outside of the free travel period. Interstate Senior Cards are not accepted for concession travel on Transperth services.
Interstate Senior card holders
From Wednesday 1 July 2009, interstate Seniors in possession of a valid Seniors card from their home State are able to access concession fares when travelling on Transperth bus, train and ferry services, as well as regional town services.
Some States issue temporary Seniors cards that usually have a month validity. Transperth will honour the temporary card and enable access to concession travel, ensuring it is not a photocopy and is valid.
Interstate Seniors are not entitled to the free travel entitlement in off peak periods that is offered to Western Australian Seniors, Aged and Disability Support Pensioners.

Aged Pension cardholders are entitled to travel for free on all Transperth services between 9.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as public holidays. The new free travel entitlements can only be accessed via SmartRider, Transperth’s electronic ticketing system, so you must have an Aged Pension SmartRider to travel for free during these times.
Pensioner Concession Card
Pensioner Concession Cards are issued by Centrelink. Holders of this card are entitled to concession travel on all Transperth services. Holders of Interstate Pensioner Concession Cards are entitled to concession travel on all Transperth services.
Health Care Cards are issued by Centrelink. Holders of this card and dependants listed on the card are entitled to concession travel on all Transperth services. Interstate Health Care Cards are not accepted.
Concession card interim vouchers are issued by Centrelink to those who are waiting on the various passes (Pensioner Concession or Health Care Cards). Holders of this voucher are entitled to the appropriate rate indicated by Centrelink.
The unrestricted Monthly/Half-Yearly ticket is issued to employees of recognised supported employment settings and entitles the holder to unrestricted travel on all Transperth services outlined on the ticket.

Initially all 'Up to Year 12' concession expiry dates are set to expire on 31 March in the year after the student turns 17. Any student that attends a secondary school in their 18th year, (i.e. the year in which they turn 18), can seek an extension to their 'Up to Year 12' concession expiry by one year. To do this, the student must apply through their school for the issue of a replacement Student SmartRider. Normal school card fees apply. The replacement SmartRider will show an updated printed concession expiry date of 31 March in the year after the student turns 18.
Students at non-participating schools are required to complete an Application for Replacement Student SmartRider form and send it together with $5 to:

Secondary Students 19 years and above
Students attending secondary schools in their 19th year (i.e. the year in which they turn 19) or above are not eligible for the 'Up to Year 12' concession and therefore are not entitled to the 50 cent student fare. Full time students in their 19th year and above will instead be issued with a Tertiary-encoded concession. Students in their 19th year and above attending participating secondary schools must apply through their school for the issue of a replacement Student SmartRider card. Normal school card fees apply. The replacement SmartRider card will automatically be programmed as a Tertiary concession with an expiry of 31 March in the year after the application is made.

Secondary Students Attending Tertiary Institutions
Students attending Tertiary Institutions undertaking full time secondary studies are eligible for an 'Up to Year 12' concession if they are in their 18th year (i.e. the year in which they turn 18) or below. Full time students at Tertiary Institutions must apply through their Institution for the issue of a SmartRider card. Normal institution card fees apply. The SmartRider card will automatically be programmed as an 'Up to Year 12' concession if the student is in their 18th year or below or as a Tertiary-encoded concession if the student is in their 19th year and above. All card concessions will be set to expiry of 31 March in the year after the application is made.
Students at non-participating tertiary institutions are required to complete an Application for Tertiary SmartRider form and send it together with $5 to:

Tertiary SmartRiders are available for all full-time tertiary students. The process for obtaining a Tertiary SmartRider will depend if you attend a participating or non-participating institution. Currently, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia are participating institutions.
Tertiary students purchasing a concession fare must be in possession of a valid Tertiary SmartRider when travelling. Failure to do so could result in a fine.
Tertiary student cards or other forms of identification are not accepted by Transperth as proof of tertiary concession entitlement. For more information on Tertiary SmartRider click here.
