SmartRider rollout 

The SmartRider trial - May 2004

The first passenger trial, (conducted in May 2004 on selected services operating out of Stirling Interchange) examined consumer interaction with the SmartRider system. Results from this trial were used as the basis to develop a range of educational and information brochures for passengers.

SmartRider Control Group testing - 16 October 2005

On 16 October 2005 Transperth began a Control Group rollout of the SmartRider system. This resulted in a small number of school students and other key user groups gaining access to the system for testing purposes prior to full rollout.

SmartRider Control Group expansion - 23 January 2006

On 23 January 2006 Transperth expanded the Control Group to further test the SmartRider system. 5000 participants were recruited through TravelEasy, Transperth's email update service to increase the pressure on the infrastructure and facilities.

Seniors SmartRider rollout - 15 May 2006

Western Australian seniors who currently hold a WA Seniors Card will be posted their new Senior SmartRider in late May or June 2006. A comprehensive SmartRider Guide and Quick Tips brochure will also be included in your mail to help you learn how to use your new Seniors SmartRider card.

Student SmartRider rollout - 16 July 2006 (SECONDARY STUDENTS ONLY)

Western Australian secondary school students will be able to start using their Student SmartRider cards to add value, tag on and tag off their service to pay for their Transperth fares. Student SmartRuder will act as proof of concession entitlement and must be presented if purchasing Student 50c MultiRiders or concession cash fares on Transperth and Transwa services.

Tertiary SmartRider rollout - 16 July 2006 (UWA STUDENTS ONLY)

UWA full-time students will be able to purchase their Tertiary SmartRider card from the UWA Campus News and Gifts Newsagent to add value, tag on and tag off their service to pay for their Transperth fares. Students must validate their Tertiary SmartRider card by visiting their Student Connect website (http://www.studentadmin.uwa.edu.au/welcome/student_connect).

Student SmartRider rollout (PRIMARY STUDENTS ONLY) / Withdrawal of 50 cent student MultiRider (PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS) - 1 October 2006

Sales of the 50 cent student MultiRider ceased on 1 October 2006. Students who wish to purchase a 50 cent student fare on Transperth services need to use their Student SmartRider. Primary students can now apply for a Student SmartRider by filling out an Application for Student SmartRider form available from all Transperth InfoCentres and authorised Retail Sales Outlets. Alternatively, you can download an application form by clicking here. As a special intoductory offer, the $5.00 card purchase fee will be waived for the remainder of the 2006 calendar year.

Tertiary SmartRider rollout - 4 November 2006

All full-time tertiary students will be able to purchase their Tertiary SmartRider card from any Transperth InfoCentre or authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlets. Tertiary students must add value, tag on and off their service to pay for their Transperth fares.

Invitation to TravelEasy subscribers - 12 December 2006

All TravelEasy members are able to purchase their Standard or Concession SmartRider (proof of concession entitlement is required) from any Transperth InfoCentre or authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlets. SmartRider users must add value, tag on and off their service to pay for their Transperth fares.
