Infringement notices
Infringement notices
Infringement notices are legal under the Public Transport Authority Regulations 2003 and are issued to customers who travel without a valid standard ticket, a valid concession entitlement, an incorrect ticket or who have not paid for their entire journey. Infringement notices are also issued for any other offences which contravene the Regulations.
Most offences will incur a $50 fine, however under some by-laws of the Regulations, an on the spot fine can be up to $200.
Failure to pay an infringement notice within the required time period will lead to the matter being dealt with by the Fines Enforcement Registry which has the power to suspend your motor vehicle or drivers licence. Once the infringement process reaches this stage additional costs may be incurred.
If you wish to challenge the notice, email infringements@pta.wa.gov.au or send a 'Letter of appeal' to:
Manager of Security and Customer Service
PO Box 383
Northbridge, WA, 6865
If you are unsuccessful in this appeal and wish to contest your infringement further, this can be done by taking the matter to court.
