Name Our New Ferry

(Just don't go overboard)

It will soon be anchors away for Transperth’s newest ferry, and West Australians are invited to get on board and give it an oar-some name.

Submissions are now open to name the new $2.6 million ferry, which will be the third in the Transperth fleet alongside the MV Shelley Taylor-Smith and the MV Phillip Pendal.

In bad news for those that are cray-sea for Boaty McBoatface or Ferry McFerryface, the name should be above board, with submitters encouraged to explain the reasoning behind their choice.

We'll be accepting submissions until 5pm on Thursday 31 October, 2019.

Submissions can be made in-person at any InfoCentre, online through our Facebook page, website or My Say Transport page, at the Elizabeth Quay Ferry Kiosk or by calling the InfoLine on 13 62 13.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this for?

Transperth’s newest ferry is nearing completion and needs a name before it can start moving passengers between South Perth and Elizabeth Quay. The ferry will be the third in the Transperth fleet alongside the MV Shelley Taylor-Smith and the MV Phillip Pendal.

What name can I submit?

Anything you want, provided it’s not offensive. It can have ties to a specific WA person, animal or object, or something more personal with a touching backstory. You are also welcome to include an explanation about why you chose the name. But please, no Boaty McBoatface or Ferry McFerryface.

When and where can I submit my name suggestion?

Submissions are open until 5pm Thursday 31 October. Submissions can be made right here on our website, simply fill in the form on the left.

What will happen after I submit my entry?

A committee will work through the entries and will create a shortlist of names. A winner will then be chosen from this group.
