Aged and Disability Support Pensioner SmartRiders

Aged and Disability Support Pension cardholders are entitled to travel for free on all Transperth services between 9.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as public holidays.

The period of free travel commences from the time of the initial tag on and operates until the completion of the transfer period.  During weekdays (excluding public holidays), if a tag on occurs before 9.00am, normal concession fare rules apply for that journey until the expiry of the transfer period, this period being two hours for travel up to four zones and three hours for travel covering five to nine zones.

The free travel entitlements can only be accessed via SmartRider, Transperth’s electronic ticketing system, so you must have an Aged or Disability Support Pension SmartRider to travel for free during these times. Your Aged ore Disability Support Pension SmartRider must be tagged on and off to access the free public transport entitlements. To use your SmartRider for discounted concession travel outside of the entitelment period, you will need to add value to your card. Click here for detailed instructions on how to tag on and off, as well as video demonstrations on how to do so.

If you are an Aged or Disability Support Pension cardholder, you must apply for a Pensioner SmartRider card at your nearest Transperth InfoCentre or SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet (RSO). Click here to find your nearest Transperth InfoCentre or click here for your nearest RSO.  Or you can call 13 62 13 and ask to have an application sent to you in the post.

If you also hold a WA Seniors card, you do not need to apply for a new Pensioner SmartRider. Please click here for information about Seniors SmartRider.

For more information on accessing and using your free travel entitelment call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 (TTY: 9428 1999, TIS: 13 14 50).

Parking at stations

Passengers using their SmartRider to access free travel entitlements (WA Seniors, Aged and Disability Support Pension cardholders and Veterans) must note that they are not entitled to park for free in Pay ‘n’ Display areas at stations.

When using your SmartRider to pay for parking, passengers must have sufficient balance to purchase a parking ticket (currently $2) and a minimum 2-Section fare*. For example, a senior using their Senior SmartRider during the free travel period would need a minimum of $2 on their SmartRider, however if they travelled outside of the free travel entitlement they must have a balance of $2.70 or greater.

* You must tag on a Transperth bus or train service the same day you use your SmartRider card to pay for your parking ticket. Failure to do so will prevent you from using your SmartRider to pay for your parking ticket the next time you use the Pay ‘n’ Display.
