Free Travel Entitlement

With the opening of the Thornlie-Cockburn Line and reopening of the Armadale Line between Cannington and Perth Stations, free travel entitlement will be changing.

From Monday 9 June, Armadale Line passengers, who were previously affected by the Armadale Line closure between Victoria Park and Beckenham stations, will no longer be eligible for free travel and will be charged a fare when tagging on and off services with their SmartRider. Passengers can now take a Thornlie-Cockburn Line train from Beckenham to Perth station.

The free travel entitlement will be automatically removed from non-eligible SmartRider cards and passengers will need to ensure they have value on their SmartRider cards and check their Autoload details via My Account, prior to 9 JunePassengers can now access/edit Autoload on My Account via the Transperth website to check and update their Autoload details. Adding value to SmartRider cards via Add-Value Machines and Transperth Info Centres can be done after tagging on and off from 9 June.

Concession SmartRider holders who are no longer eligible for the free travel entitlement must tag on and off between Wednesday 11 June and Monday 23 June to ensure they continue to receive a concession rate. If you are unable to tag on during this time, please call 13 62 13 one day prior to travelling to have your concession rate re-applied.

University and TAFE students who are no longer eligible for the free travel entitlement are reminded to register their card and update their details via their student portal prior to 9 June, to ensure they receive their concession when they travel.

Senior, Pensioner and Health Care SmartRider holders will automatically have entitlements applied to their SmartRider cards but are required to tag on and off between Wednesday 11 June and Monday 23 June to ensure this is applied to their SmartRider cards. If you are unable to tag on during this time, please call 13 62 13 one day prior to travelling to have your concession rate re-applied.

The changes to the free travel entitlement will also apply to Transperth car parks. Passengers no longer eligible for the free travel entitlement will be charged as normal when tagging on at SmartParker machines from Monday 9 June

Ongoing free travel entitlement

Free travel entitlement will be extended for eligible Armadale Line passengers still affected by the Armadale Line closure between Armadale and Beckenham stations, which includes all stations between Kenwick and Armadale.

Eligible users will have their free travel entitlement extension automatically applied to their SmartRider cards until the remainder of the Armadale Line opens. However, passengers will need to tag on and off prior to 9 June to ensure they continue to receive the free travel entitlement. If you are unable to tag on during this time, please call 13 62 13 one day prior to travelling to have your free travel entitlement re-applied.

These passengers will still need to tag on and off services during the free travel period but will not be charged a fare.

The free travel extension entitlement also applies to Transperth car parks so eligible users can park in any Transperth car park for free. Passengers using Transperth car parks will still be required to park with a vehicle registered to their account and tag on to the SmartParker machine. Failure to do this may result in a fine.
