Summer Free Travel Sat 14 Dec - Wed 05 Feb This summer, SmartRider holders can travel for free on all Transperth train, bus, and ferry services. SmartRider holders can leave their cars at home and jump on board the Transperth and Transregional network for free by simply tagging on and tagging off. Summer Free Travel will begin on Saturday 14 December 2024 and run until Wednesday 5 February 2025 and is available to anyone with a valid SmartRider. To receive free travel this summer, you must tag on at the beginning and tag off at the end of your journey. Not doing so will result in a default fare and possible infringement. Tagging on and off also helps us monitor how many passengers are using our network, that way when services reach capacity, we can review services to maintain a comfortable ride for everyone. Free SmartRider Giveaway Don’t have a SmartRider but want to travel during the free travel period? For a limited time*, we will be giving out free SmartRiders so everyone can take advantage of free travel. To get your hands on one of these cards just head to a Transperth InfoCentre from 11 December or call us on 13 62 13 and we will mail one out to you. There is a limit of one card per person, so we will be asking patrons to register their new card. You can do this at the InfoCentre by completing a SmartRider Registration Form or we can take some details from you over the phone. *11 Dec ’24 – 5 Feb ‘25 Do I need one of these new cards to access free travel if I already have a SmartRider? No, if you already have an active SmartRider card then you do not need to get a new card, as your existing SmartRider will automatically have access to the free travel entitlement. Where can I get a free SmartRider? You can get a free SmartRider at any Transperth InfoCentre. If you can’t make it to an InfoCentre you can call us on 13 62 13 and we will mail one out to you. The cards will be available from 11 December 2024 until 5 February 2025 (note the cards will only provide free travel during the free travel period). Can I get a free SmartRider from a Retail Sales Outlet (RSO) or a SmartRider Hub? No, the free SmartRiders are only available from an InfoCentre or by calling 13 62 13. If you use a Retail Sales Outlet or SmartRider Hub then the usual fees apply and Transperth will not reimburse the cost. Why do I need to register the new card? There is a limit of one active card per person so to ensure fairness we are asking people to register their free SmartRider. You can do this at an InfoCentre by completing a SmartRider Registration Form or if you prefer you can call 13 62 13 and we can take some details from you over the phone and mail the card to you. What is the value on the card? The card is set to a $0 balance, however, during the free travel period you can travel for free by tagging on and off. If you travel outside of the free travel period (14 December – 5 February inclusively) then your card will go into debit and you will need to add value to the card to continue to travel. Please note that this card is a Standard SmartRider. If you are entitled to a concession fare then you will need to apply to change the card to a Concession SmartRider. Details can be found here. Please note that some concession cards are issued differently, such as Seniors and Student SmartRiders, so it may not be possible to convert this card. I tagged on before the free travel period started and now my card won't work, what do I do? If you use the card before the 14 December 2024 then you will go into debit and you will need to add value to the card. Transperth will not reimburse you for this cost. I wish to use this card after the free travel period, what do I do? That’s easy, just add value to the card via any one of these methods and you can continue to travel with the card after the free travel period. If you travel after 5 February 2025 without adding value to the card then you will go into debit and the card will no longer allow you to travel until you add value. I lost my free SmartRider card, what do I do now? If you lose your new card during the free travel period you can get another one by visiting an InfoCentre or by calling 13 62 13. Your lost card will be hotlisted and the card deactivated. Please note that the free travel entitlement is only available to people with a SmartRider, so you will be required to pay for fares and parking while you wait for a replacement. Transperth will not reimburse you for these costs. If you lose your SmartRider card after the free travel period then you will need to purchase a new SmartRider. I've just purchased a new SmartRider, can I be reimbursed for the cost? No, this promotion is for those that do not have a SmartRider card. There is no refund of the $10 or $5 fee that you paid for your card before this promotion commenced. However, your existing SmartRider will entitle you to free travel during the entitlement period. Will parking be free during summer free travel? Parking is free for SmartRider holders at all Transperth car parks during the Summer Free Travel period (14 December 2024 – 5 February 2025). Make sure your vehicle is registered to your SmartRider and ensure you tag on to the SmartParker machine when you park.
