Due to the closure of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge, Transperth has measures in place to support public transport during the closure.

Train Services

Two additional weekday train services on the Fremantle Line are operating between Fremantle and Perth in both the morning and afternoon peak periods. These additional train services will stop at all stations on the Fremantle Line.

Click here for train departure times.

Bikes are permitted on trains between Fremantle and North Fremantle during peak periods where space is available, and as usual during off‑peak times, space permitted. Please note that passengers must disembark with their bike when arriving at North Fremantle and cannot travel to other stations on the Fremantle Line during peak periods.

Bus Services

Additional bus services are operating to support existing bus routes in Fremantle.

Routes 107, 160, 998 and 999 routes have changed and all services operating in Fremantle have had timetable changes due to the road network changes.

Click here for information on school service changes and here for bus service changes.

For more information on road network changes, visit Main Roads

For more information on other ways to travel to and around Fremantle, visit Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure.

School Service Changes

New School Special services are operating from Fremantle Station to Iona Presentation College, St Hilda’s Anglican School and Presbyterian Ladies’ College.

These schools were allocated School Special services due to their proximity to Stirling Hwy and the significant car usage to and from these schools over Stirling Bridge.

Additional capacity has been added on select existing routes servicing John Curtin College of the Arts and Christian Brothers College.

Other schools in the surrounding area may be affected by timetable changes.

Click here for information on school service changes and here for bus service changes.

Free Transit Zone

A free transit zone along South Tce between Douro Rd and Fremantle Station is operating during the bridge closure period.

To travel free, you must tag on and tag off within the Free Transit Zone with your SmartRider or contactless payment method. If your journey starts or finishes outside the zone, you must pay a fare for the whole journey.

Parking at Fremantle Station

An additional 100 parking bays are available at Fremantle Station for the duration of the bridge closure.

Registered SmartRider users who are catching the train or fare paying bus service during the bridge closure period will receive free parking at Fremantle Station.

Visit Parking for more information about SmartParker.

Travelling with Transperth

New to travelling on our services? Here are some things you’ll need to know.

Ticketing

Transperth's two-zone fare cap means that you'll never pay more than a two-zone fare no matter how far you travel. You can use a SmartRider or buy a cash ticket*, both can be used across all Transperth train, bus and ferry services.

SmartRiders

SmartRider is a reusable smart card which can save you up to 20% off your fare**. They are available to buy at Transperth InfoCentresretail sales outlets and SmartRider Hubs.

SmartRider Hubs have been installed at Nicholson Road, Ranford Road and Thornlie stations. SmartRiders are $10 each and you will need to load a minimum of $10 onto the card during the purchase.

Cash Tickets

These can be purchased onboard buses or from ticket machines at train stations and ferry jetties.

Every Sunday Free

Every Sunday, travel is free for all SmartRider holders. You will need to tag on and off with your SmartRider but you will not be charged a fare.

Free travel is available on all Transperth bus, train and ferry trips from first service until last service.

Please note that the free travel does not apply to late night services after midnight on Saturday and if you are travelling without a SmartRider then you will need to purchase a cash ticket.

Planning Your Journey

Before heading to a stop or station remember to plan your journey using the JourneyPlanner, or via the Transperth app where you can track your bus and train services in real time. The JourneyPlanner will be updated in January 2026 to reflect the changes to bus and train services due to the Fremantle Traffic Bridge closure.

Accessibility

All bus stops serviced by routes introduced as part of this shutdown, including the three temporary bus stations, are accessible and comply with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport.

All Transperth buses are Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant to support accessibility.

Visit accessibility for more information.

*Please note no change will be given if you pay with cash onboard a Transperth bus. If you must pay with cash, then please pay with the exact money. To find out how much your fare will be please plan your journey on the JourneyPlanner or visit Transperth fares.
