FAQs

When will the Airport Line open?

On the Sunday 9 October there will be a family fun day held at High Wycombe and Redcliffe stations with free travel across the entire network.

The new stations will open to the public at midday on the Sunday, then full services and standard timetables (across bus and trains) will commence at first service Monday 10 October.

Find out more about the Community Open Day to celebrate the Airport Line opening.

Will the Airport Line be impacted next year during the Midland Line Shutdown and Bayswater Station works?

Yes, the Airport Line will be impacted. We are still working through the planning at this stage and will provide train replacement buses. Once we have more information available, we'll let you know. You can sign up for My Alerts using My Account to get info nearer to the time.

What is the frequency of train services on the Airport Line?

Services on the Airport Line will run every 12 minutes in peak, and every 15 minute off peak. Trains will stop at all stations between High Wycombe and Claremont, effectively doubling frequency for these stations across three lines.

Travel time from Perth to Redcliffe will be 15 minutes, 18 minutes to Airport Central Station and 20 minutes to High Wycombe.

What times does the Airport Line run?

Services on the Airport Line run from approximately 6am until 12am. Download the timetable.

Will I be able to catch the Airport Line from the city?

Yes, you will. Trains depart Platform 8 at Perth Station.

Why doesn't the train meet all flights from the airport?

Airport Line trains will operate consistent with standard operating hours across the Transperth network – between 5/5.30am and 12.30am. Unfortunately, services cannot start earlier as there is a need to preserve an overnight maintenance window to ensure maintenance and repairs can be undertaken in a safe and timely manner. This is the same approach for all lines on the network. Reducing or eliminating this window would necessitate disruptive shutdowns.

While called the Airport Line, the new service is not a dedicated service to the airport, but rather an extension of the existing Transperth commuter network to the eastern suburbs. The Airport Line will meet up to 85% of flights in and out of Perth Airport.

Are trains going to run early enough for FIFO workers to make their 5am flights?

Airport Line trains will operate with standard operating hours across the network, which usually begins around 5am and finished around 12.30am. While called the Airport Line, the new service is not dedicated to the airport, but rather an extension of the existing Transperth commuter network to the Eastern suburbs.

The timetable has been designed to meet 85% of flights servicing the Airport, it's important we leave ourselves a maintenance window each night on the network.

Will I pay more to travel to and from the airport?

No. You won’t pay more than $5 to travel to or from the airport and any location on the Transperth network. The fee is reduced if you use a SmartRider.

Is travel on the line free for pensioners?

The usual Senior and Pensioner concessions apply, same as the rest of the network.

Is there room for suitcases and luggage on services?

Suitcases and luggage are allowed on the train. You can take them on all services, including peak times.

On Route 292 to T3/T4 from Redcliffe Station there will be storage for luggage.

Will the Airport Line have an express service?
