The security story you won’t see on the news

In 2018 there were 49 incidents per million passenger boardings, that’s 0.0049%. In addition to that, 98% of all trains have a security presence after 7pm at night.

With around 330 security staff and over 10,000 cameras, we work hard to keep our 180km network safe.

In fact our passengers are feeling safer than ever at night. Our 2018 Passenger Satisfaction Monitor tells us that passengers’ feelings of personal safety and security at night have recorded an all-time high result.

Customer survey reveals what patrons really think about public transport

According to a 2019 Canstar Blue study, our passengers continue to rate our service higher than those in any other major Australian city.

A review of Australia’s metropolitan rail network has seen us achieve five-star ratings in six out of eight categories, including overall customer satisfaction.

You can find more information on this survey on the Canstar Blue website.

You won’t believe what transit officer training involves

Our transit officers go through six months of intense training including:

  • Legal education
  • Defensive tactics
  • Customer service skills.

And did you know, while on trains or at stations, transit officers have many of the same powers as police, including the ability to arrest and charge offenders.

You can find more information on security across the network here.

You won’t believe how often trains are delayed

Between July and September 2019, 96.5% of our trains ran on time.

Unfortunately unplanned disruptions do occur due to technical issues and other incidents across the network, however we work hard to minimise the risk of these occurrences by performing regular maintenance across the network.

According to Canstar Blue, our passengers are least likely to experience delays on the network when compared with other major capital cities.
